What an implant actually is

Three pieces. One tooth that stays put.

  1. 1

    The root

A titanium post about 4 mm wide and 11 mm long. Bone grows onto its surface over 3 to 6 months, which is why it never slips.

  2. 2

    The connector

It screws into the root and sets the angle of your new tooth so your bite lands right. Ours are anodized pink, so no grey shows through your gums.

  3. 3

    Your new tooth

Zirconia, designed on your scan and milled in our lab downstairs, then shade-matched to the teeth next to it.

Why not just get dentures?

Fair question. When a tooth goes, the bone under it starts to shrink. Dentures and bridges sit on top of that bone. An implant sits inside it and keeps it working.

From your surgeon

Hi, I'm Nadia.

I've been placing implants for 14 years, and I still plan every case myself. The person who scans you is the person who makes your teeth, in a lab one floor down.

If implants aren't the right call for your mouth, I'll tell you on the first visit. You won't get a sales pitch from me.

  • Scan and answer, same visitThe 3D scanner is here, so no trip to an imaging center.
  • Teeth made downstairsTemporary and final sets are milled in-house. Fixes take hours, not weeks.
  • IV sedation if you want itMonitored the whole time, with a private recovery room.
  • A printed guide for every caseImplants go exactly where the plan says. Less cutting, faster healing.

What people ask before they book.

Does it hurt?

Most patients say it was easier than having a tooth pulled. The area is numb, and IV sedation is there if you're nervous. Expect to be sore for 2 to 4 days. Most people manage that with over-the-counter pain relief.

Am I too old for implants?

Age on its own is rarely the issue. Bone and general health matter more, and we place implants for patients in their 80s regularly. The free scan answers the question for your mouth.

Another dentist said I don't have enough bone.

That's often fixable. Options include bone grafting, angled implants like All-on-4 that use the denser bone toward the front, and zygomatic implants for advanced bone loss. Bring your old X-rays if you have them.

How long until I have teeth?

For a full arch, fixed temporary teeth go in on surgery day and your final set follows after 4 to 6 months of healing. A single implant usually heals for 3 to 6 months before the final crown.

Does insurance cover implants?

Many dental plans cover part of it, usually up to the plan's yearly maximum. We check your benefits before the consult and show what insurance pays and what you pay as separate lines.

I smoke, or I have diabetes. Can I still get them?

Usually, yes. Both make it harder for an implant to fuse, so we plan around them. Well-controlled diabetes and stopping smoking around surgery make a real difference.
